Beryl (Goshenite) with Scheelite and Muscovite
stock #6.2-900
Mt. Xuebaoding, Pingwu Co., Mianyang Pref.
Sichuan Province, China
5.2 x 3 x2.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $170
Post Tucson 2022

A classic combination of species from the famed Mt Xuebaoding (Sichuan, China). Two small but gem-clear Beryl crystals show the classic flat/ tabular form of hexagonal prisms. The Scheelite is an incomplete crystal with excellent orange color and bright luster that is contacted on the back. The matrix is a mat of Muscovite crystals having a rusty color that sits on a massive chunk of country rock that has been sawn on the back, base and sides. These combination specimens have become less common lately and many have become quite expensive, this is a nice example at a relatively low price.

Beryl var. Goshenite
stock #AX-14-366
Erongo Mountain, Karibib
Erongo Region, Namibia
5.8 x 5.7 x 3.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $450
new year 2021

White to colorless Beryl (Goshenite) in elongated crystals in a cluster with only a tiny sliver of matrix. Translucent to transparent, glassy and sharp, the crystals are terminated with flat basal tops. From the Erongo Mountains, it is surprising how rare colorless Beryl is compared to some of the many colored varieties. This is a nice addition to an Beryl suite. Most Goshenite we see from Erongo are tiny crystals usually with Schorl or Feldspar. This piece having pure Goshenite in good size (to 2.6 CM) is very unusual and significant.

Beryl Var Goshenite -Highly etched crystal.
stock #16.1-332
Urucum Mine, Galileia
Minas Gerais, Brazil
3.8 x 2.6 x 1.8 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $440
Spring 2020

Perfect, gemmy and absolutely colorless, this looks just like ice. A natural sculpture of a single etched Beryl crystal, this is also a complete floater. Every surface is complexly faceted, etched and undamaged. Not many minerals can exhibit this degree of sharp sculptural etching, however we see this with Beryl from a few finds and these can be incredible in person. True colorless Beryl (Goshenite) is also quite uncommon. This specimen is displayable from any side or angle, the larger faces are smoothly curved yet striated and it is fully transparent with no inclusions, veils or cracks. Choice gem..

Calcite- gemmy, twinned
stock #15.1-513
Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Smith County
Tennessee, United States
5.4 x 5 x 2.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $360

Ultra clear, a pair of transparent crystals of twinned Scalenohedral Calcite from the great Elmwood mine. The faces are glassy and the termination tips show a slight hint of a cognac color otherwise these are perfectly colorless. The twinning is both a rotational and interpenetrated type, which is very easy to see in person. Just a hint of matrix is present, mostly on the backside of one crystal. The condition is fine and the terminations are uncleaved, A contact on the back, lower edge is noted but no damage. Now that the Elmwood is closed probably forever, good, clean Calcites of the quality are becoming quite uncommon and prized.

Beryl V. Goshenite -Aquamarine on Muscovite
stock #6.2-082
Mt. Xuebaoding, Pingwu Co., Mianyang Pref.
Sichuan Province, China
5.3 x 3.1 x 2.8 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $290
Spring 2017

Simple and attractive, the less common tabular form (flat hexagons) of gem clear Beryl nicely perched on matrix. In most light the Beryl looks white or colorless, but a tiny hint of blue can be seen in some conditions. In my eye it is a colorless Goshenite variety but some may see it as a pale Aquamarine. Either way this presents this special discoidal habit very well. From the modern classic area of Mt Xuebaoding in 2003, this form has not been found for some time. A choice modern Chinese classic and an uncommon crystal habit.

Beryl (var. Goshenite) on Schorl
stock #AX-14-277
Erongo Mountain, Karibib
Erongo Region, Namibia
5 x 4.6 x 3 CM (miniature)
price: $550

Bright gem clear white Beryl crystals are studded on a 3 dimensional array of shiny black Schorl crystals. In excellent condition, this is a fine Erongo specimen and far better in person. 2012 vintage, this material has not been seen since.
