Hyalite Opal - Vintage specimen 1895
stock #20.1-296

San Luis Potosi, Mexico
9.6 x 8.4 x 5.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $330

This is both a nice specimen and a fine historic piece as well. The specimen has a slightly faded affixed label from the remarkable collection of Wallace Gould Levison. Details from his ledger (we include a photocopy of the page) says" Bought from William Niven in his new store at 14th street and Broadway (NYC) April 18, 1895". Niven was an important minerologist born in 1850 who was an early partner with the famed dealer George English, later an independent dealer in New York. The specimen is vividly fluorescent and the Hyalite Opal is perfectly transparent looking like bubbles covering a purplish Chalcedony matrix. The only location given in the notes is San Luis Potosi, this is almost certainly from Tepetate. A very choice piece that is both esthetic and a nice piece of History.

Hyalite (opal) - gem clear
stock #A7-071-(526)
Tarcal, Eperjes- Tokaj Mountains
Borosod-Abauj-Zemplen Co., Hungary
3.5 x 2.9 x 2 CM (miniature)
price: $110
Spring 2017

A glass clear bubbly mass of Hyalite Opal perched on matrix. Vivid fluorescence, undamaged and esthetic. It is possible to easily see bubbles inside the Hyalite. Even prettier in person.
