Fluorite
stock #21.1-339
Cantera Llamas, Duyos, Caravia
Asturias, Spain
2.9 x 1.8 x 1.8 CM (thumbnail)
price: $480
Late Summer 2021

A pair of edge modified cubes of transparent Fluorite in an esthetic cluster. The condition is incredible with textbook perfect form, the color a light violet and the one crystal is tabular. An excellent large thumbnail, it is hard to capture the clarity and form in photos, in person it is especially impressive. The faces appear glass-like and smooth at first but on close inspection with good lighting the surfaces are covered with tiny geometric growth structures. A few very tiny Fluorite cubes are perched on this as well, and there is a shard of snow-like Quartz matrix that adds a nice sparkle. Aside from a small cleave on the underside of the lower crystal (not visible on display) this is perfect from all points of view, competitive quality.

Fluorite - gemmy
stock #21.1-317
Cantera Llamas, Duyos, Caravia
Asturias, Spain
3.1 x 2.3 x 2 CM (thumbnail)
price: $550
Late Summer 2021

Limpid clear and perfect a single modified cube of light violet Fluorite on a small matrix druse of Quartz. Some faces are perfectly glass-like while other have some etched growth structures. The insides of the cube are fully transparent with no inclusions. From the small but remarkable locality of Cantera Llamas, this is far better than typical for this find, a competition grade thumbnail. The clear cube is more impressive in person as the color and clarity are hard to render on a computer screen.

Fluorite - modified gem clear cubes
stock #21.1-169
Xiayang, Yongchun County, Quanzhou Prefecture
Fujian Province, China
5.1 x 4.3 x 3.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $1050
Early summer 2021

From a recent (2021) find at Xiayang, a cluster of vivid purple-blue cubes on matrix. These cubes all have the beveled edge modifications that are perfect and sharp, a textbook example. Even more clear and lustrous in person. This sits on its own at several good display angles, the first photo is what some would call the back because there is less Fluorite present though I like the contrast. No matter the angle of display the prominent crystals are fully perfect as seen though some outer crystals do have some edge roughness or contacts. All in all the condition is fine. This does show some of the color change effect from incandescent to daylight or LED lighting. This is a special feature of some Fujian Fluorites and some have called it a "tanzanite effect". The shift from purple to blue is clear, though I must say not quite as vivid as on some other pieces. An excellent example of the find and just a nice Fluorite from anyplace.

Fluorite on Quartz
stock #6.2-440
Xianghualing Mine, Linwu County, Chenzhou Pref.
Hunan Province, China
5.1 x 4.5 x 3.1 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $180
Early summer 2021

Mint-green cubo-octahedral crystals of transparent Fluorite on contrasting Quartz crystals. The Fluorites have some slightly frosted faces and are well isolated and perched well up from the orange and white Quartz. In excellent condition from the 2005 era finds at Xianghualing. These are no longer coming on to the market and they represent a very attractive yet still affordable display specimen. Looks fine from several angles.

Fluorite - rare
stock #21.1-239
Mahodari, Sinnar, Nasik District
Maharashtra, India
6.2 x 4.4 x 2.8 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $160
Early summer 2021

A small but distinct single ball of red Fluorite is nestled in a matrix of Quartz crystals. From earlier finds at Nasik, there have been a lot of ball shaped Fluorite found in recent years, but the red color is very rare, almost never seen for years. There have also been many fakes with dyes used to color the Fluorite. This is a fully natural, real example with the ball just under 1 CM across. Hard to find and when available the prices can be incredibly high. A nice example at a reasonable price, good value for any lover of Fluorite or Indian minerals.

Fluorite on Schorl
stock #17.1-525
Hohenstein Massif, Omaruru District
Erongo Region, Namibia
5.8 x 3.3 x 2.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $290
Early summer 2021

Complex rounded ball-like crystals of Fluorite perched on Schorl crystals from Erongo. The Fluorites are lightly frosted, partly glassy and transparent. Most are included with tiny needles of Schorl and are in excellent condition. This region of the Hohenstien Massif has often yielded single pockets with unique character and mineral combinations. This is from one such pocket found in 2017 by a group of "small miners" from the area. Looks fine from most any angle.

Fluoritre on Schorl and Quartz with Goshenite (Beryl)
stock #AX-14-350
Erongo Mountain, Karibib
Erongo Region, Namibia
6.9 x 5.3 x 4.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $850
Early summer 2021

Violet crystals of Fluorite with complex rounded faces most of which are on and included by Schorl crystals. A scattering of small Quartz and Goshenite. In excellent condition, bright and lustrous, the Fluorites have color zoning in areas with a darker red-purple and these all glow with any backlighting. A clean and attractive Erongo piece that can be displayed from almost any angle.

Fluorite with Quartz casts after Calcite
stock #6.2-610
Dongpo Mine, Yizhang County, Chenzohou prefecture
Hunan Province, China
8.8 x 5.3 x 5.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $290
Early summer 2021

Very odd yet attractive specimen of two Fluorite crystals that are both pierced by scalenohedral holes in the shape of former Calcite crystals. The cavities are filled with drusy Quartz crystals that sparkle and contrast with the green Fluorite. An unusual Fluorite from the Dongpo Mine, this has 2 larger and 3 smaller casts inside the Fluorite cubes. A nice piece for those who enjoy oddities.
