SOLD Chalcopyrite - exceptional ball form
stock #SOLD 23.1-391
Tonglushan Mine, Daye County, Huangshi Prefecture
Hubei Province, China
4.1 x 2.6 x 2.3 CM (miniature)
price: $0
Pre Tucson

The discovery of these incredible Chalcopyrite balls at Tonglushan (China) in 2018 made big waves in the mineral world. For a while it was rumored these were altered or faked but as they were well studied and examined they have become accepted as fully natural. There is a little resemblance to some old ball specimens of Chalcopyrite from both Bristol, Connecticut and Cornwall, England but these are far more perfect, complete and have a nice patina as well. The find was a one off, no new examples have been found since. This specimen of 5 connected balls shows well the habit and form, is in perfect condition and looks great from any angle. The large ball is 2.3 CM across. A super addition to any Sulphide suite, Chinese collection or to a display that has strange and wonderful minerals!

Inesite, Apophyllite and Hubeite on Quartz
stock #AX-15-196
Fengjiashan Mine (Daye Mine), Daye County, Huangshi Pref.
Hubei Province, China
10.4 x 8.3 x 5.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $490
Pre Tucson

From a small find about 10 years ago, a most unusual but also very esthetic specimen. From the Chinese suite of the Shields Flynn collection, this is an amazing style of Inesite unlike any other. The matrix of this is nearly all Quartz crystals in two generations and a little Pyrite, it is covered with dozens of long slender Inesite crystals most of which are covered by tiny sparkling Apophyllite crystals. The Hubeite crystals are lustrous brown, scattered all over but especially rich on the backside. Overall the specimen is very three dimensional, visually complex and has a superb display impact. There are a few small uncoated Inesites which are bright pink to orange, but the main Inesite are fully covered by clear Apophyllite. In fine condition as seen.

Apophyllite, Hubeite and Quartz
stock #6.2-462
Fengjiashan Mine (Daye Mine), Daye County, Huangshi Pref.
Hubei Province, China
9 x 6.9 x 4.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $160

Windowpane type Apophyllite crystals mixed with sharp, transparent Quartz, and all dusted with tiny Hubeite crystals. A few of the smaller Quartz are Japanese twins. An attractive combination specimen in very good condition, the main Apophyllite crystals are undamaged. There is some minor chipping and damage on the outside edge where this was removed, overall in nice shape. The Hubeite, (this is the type locality), are numerous but tiny best seen with magnification. The Apophyllite is almost certainly Fluorapophyllite, it is what is known from here but as this piece has no confirming analysis we use only the group name. An attractive cabinet specimen with nice three-dimensional form. This find was made in 2006-7 and very little has come out since.

Calcite -
stock #7.AE-470
Fengjiashan Mine (Daye Mine), Daye County, Huangshi Pref.
Hubei Province, China
7 x 5.4 x 4.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $340

From a find in 2005 in Hubei, these mushroom like Calcites made big news then in the mineral world. We sold this example at that time and it is now back with us to be offered again. This is colored on some faces by inclusions of Hematite which adds a nice contrast. The display face is in fine condition with no visible damage, but there is a notable cleave on back of the left side that is seen from that side, and the bottom is broken at an angle so the base is also cleaved. Despite that cleave this is still an attractive displayable specimen that shows the form perfectly. The "stem" has a series of flat Calcite tabular crystal ridges that are more deeply colored red.

Calcite- Complex twin
stock #18.1-230
Daye Iron Mine, Edong Mining District, Huangshi Prefecture
Hubei Province, China
7.4 x 5.4 x 4.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $400
Worldwide mix summer

From the Daye mining area in 2002 before it became a well known mineral locality, this Calcite has a form unlike later finds. The Calcite is almost 6 CM in diameter, transparent (more so than the photos show) and with glassy luster. Some contacts are noted on the back (see the last photo of the back) but overall as seen it is in very fine condition damagewise. Displays well from several angles, we obtained this on one of of earliest trips to China and until recently it was in my personal collection.

Inesite with Quartz, Hubetite etc.
stock #16.1-174
Fengjiashan Mine (Daye Mine), Daye County, Huangshi Pref.
Hubei Province, China
7.2 x 7 x 5.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $390
Winter 2016-17

A fine Chinese Inesite from the Daye Mine (Fengjiashian Mine). Great esthetic with a very delicate, perfect standing spray of Inesite on top of a matrix of smaller Inesite, Quartz and Hubeite crystals. Excellent form and color, this has the richest red-orange hue that is most desirable. Not much has been found in recent years and little of that has good form or color. An impressive specimen for the mineral and for the locale.

stock #AX-24-432
Tongshankou Mine, Daye Co., Huangshi Pref.
Hubei Province, China
5 x 2.1 x 1.4 CM (miniature)
price: $875
Winter 2016-17

An especially attractive specimen from the now famed finds at Hubai. Fine patina and form with the treelike structure perched on crude Chalcocite crystal base. These have been found in many forms in this find but this habit is especially nice and quite rare.

Calcite w. Hematite
stock #15.1-992-(SM4995)
Daye Iron Mine, Edong Mining District, Huangshi Prefecture
Hubei Province, China
6.1 x 3 x 4.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $330

Hematite included Calcite crystal with fine color, luster and an overall esthetic presentation. This is an unusual form twin that is completely different from any others I have seen from Daye. With well-developed phantoms, this is in excellent undamaged condition.
