Azurite
stock #AX-24-392
Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Municipio de Santa Cruz
Sonora, Mexico
7.1 x 5.1 x 3..4 CM (cabinet)
price: $650

Sharp, highly lustrous Azurite crystals in a cluster on a contrasting reddish matrix. An early find Azurite specimen at Milpillas that is rather different in habit from later material. In excellent condition, clean and with bright "electric" blue crystals that are up to 1.6 CM and translucent to transparent. This mine is certainly a modern classic locality, and is now closed. During the short working life of the mine it became the world's greatest source of fine Azurites. The many diverse styles, habits and forms continue to make Millpillas a highly collectible locality. This is both a pretty, choice piece and a rather different esthetic. Excellent value.

SOLD Brochantite - stout crystal form
stock #SOLD 15.1-562
Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Municipio de Santa Cruz
Sonora, Mexico
4.1 x 2.8 x 2.4 CM (miniature)
price: $0

An emerald green mass of Brochantite crystals standing like grass on a miniature sized lawn. These are translucent to transparent crystals with thicker and less fragile form. Most of the Brochantite from here was the very slender and fragile needle habit and often was laying flat on the matrix. The standing "jackstraw" specimens are especially desirable. Already a classic from Milpillas which is one of the world's greatest Copper mines and source of amazing Azurite, the Brochantites from this locale are also world class. A very nice miniature with great luster and color best appreciated in person. In excellent condition, the mine is now closed forever so there will be no more of these.

Azurite and Malachite - 'electric'
stock #AX-3-178
Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Municipio de Santa Cruz
Sonora, Mexico
5.9 x 3 x 1.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $880
Late Summer 2021

Sharp, translucent, lustrous and a vivid blue, perfect Azurites on a thin matrix plate. From one of the first finds at Milpillas, this is in perfect condition and has a little contrasting green Malachite. Milpillas produced many variations of Azurites over several years that were often dazzling. There were so many it was often overwhelming. Sadly all that is over, the mine is gone forever and now the better specimens are gaining greater appreciation. Really striking in person, a choice and glassy cluster with no flaws.

Wavellite
stock #21.1-231
La Caridad Mine, La Caridad, Nacozari de Garcia Municipality
Sonora, Mexico
8.7 x 3.6 x 2.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $140
Early summer 2021

A nearly pure Wavellite specimen with minimal matrix, the Wavellite is in fibrous layers surrounding an open vug. The vug surface is a lemon-yellow carpet of botryoidal Wavellite that with good lighting has a wet-look luster. An unusual style and habit that is unlike most any other Wavellite in the entire world. From long ago finds at the La Caridad Mine, we have not seen any new material available for decades, only from older collections like this piece.

Brochantite
stock #AX-3-413
Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Municipio de Santa Cruz
Sonora, Mexico
3.3 x 2.3 x 1.6 CM (thumbnail)
price: $260
Early summer 2021

A sizable thumbnail of Brochantite from the earliest find at Milpillas. This has the mixture of very slender hairlike crystals and the more stout, thicker ones. Excellent color and condition. We saw very few good thumbnails sized pieces of Brochantite from Milpillas as most were quite large. The Brochantites found at this locale were quickly hailed as world-class and set new standards. This small piece is a choice example that is a perfect, tiny part of this important discovery.

Azurite on Malachite
stock #AX-3-045
Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Municipio de Santa Cruz
Sonora, Mexico
3.7 x 2.6 x 1.6 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $1350
new year 2021

From the great finds at Milpillas, this is a very fine small miniature in perfect condition with excellent esthetics. The Azurite crystals stand up from the contrasting green Malachite which covers a thin shard of matrix. These are translucent on the edges with a brilliant blue. A few tiny spots on the Azurites show Malachite alterations and the overall luster is very bright. With a close exam or under magnification the crystals are seen as compound prisms made from aligned crystals in an almost rosette structure. This piece is more impressive in person, and has a lot of display impact for its size. When Milpillas was active it produced lots of good Azurite and also a few really great pieces. Finding an above average specimen with rich color contrast in perfect condition (and at a fair price) was never easy. This is that sort of piece.

Azurite
stock #AX-3-104
Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Municipio de Santa Cruz
Sonora, Mexico
2.7 x 1.6 x 1.8 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $300
new year 2021

A highly lustrous, bright deep blue cluster of Azurite crystals showing complex edge and face modifications. In excellent condition as seen this has a few tiny bits of Malachite alterations but is nearly all brilliant Azurite. From early finds at Milpillas, this is unusual since the crystals are complete, doubly terminated and without any matrix.

Mimetite
stock #8.1-215
San Francisco Mine, Cucurpe
Sonora, Mexico
6.8 x 5.9 x 4.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $380
Spring 2020

An old Mimetite specimen from the famed San Francisco mine that is better known for exceptional Wulfenites. The crystals on this specimen are unusual in that they are elongated, standing hexagons that look more like a yellow Pyromorphite than the usual orange Mimetite balls. Overall in fine condition, examination by loupe finds very few tiny bruises mostly at the edges. Overall this is a a very well defined and esthetic Mimetite with what seems to be two different generations. The matrix is a solid and substantial "non crumbly" type unlike the matrix of most Wulfenites from here. This piece has Mimetite crystals on all sides the color ranges from greenish brown to mustard yellow, quite different from the orange Mimetite balls more often seen from this mine.
