Pyrite - altering to Hematite/Goethite
stock #7-AE-230
Green Monster Mountain, Prince of Wales Island, Prince of Wales Island
Alaska, United States
3.5 x 3.1 x 2.6 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $90
Late Summer 2021

From the famed Green Monster Mountain (Alaska) a Pyrite crystal partially pseudomorphed by Iron Oxide species. This locale is well-known for fine Epidote but the Pyrite pseudos are seldom seen. The Pyrite on this has good somewhat iridescent luster on some faces. Several faces also have some fissures and and stepped zones. The pyrite form is distinct and the specimen seems to be solid and stable.

Goethite pseudomorph after Pyrite - USA classic locale
stock #7.AE-229
Green Monster Mountain, Prince of Wales Island, Prince of Wales Island
Alaska, United States
2 x 1.6 x 1.2 CM (thumbnail)
price: $330
Late Summer 2021

A perfect thumbnail of a complete undamaged pseudomorph from the famed Green Monster Mountain (Alaska). This is the sharpest example of this replacement I have seen from this locality, though there are very few pieces to compare out there. This is a 360 degree specimen with textbook form and clean edges. One small spot shows a little remaining Pyrite which is surprisingly very lustrous. This is a classic locality for Epidote though the related minerals are much less well-known. Ex. A. Edwards collection, a fine small thumbnail.

Almandine in schist
stock #20.1-173
Stikine River, Wrangell Island, Wrangell-Petersburg Borough
Alaska, United States
8.4 x 5.3 x 4.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $790
Spring 2020

A large and crisp Garnet is well exposed on the Schist matrix. The crystal is in fine condition, it has the typical slightly rounded edges and faces but excellent color and quality. The crystal is 2.7 CM across, large for the locality. Close exam shows the more complex growth faces and structures on the larger faces. A modern USA classic locale, the Stikene River (Alaska) had in the past produced many impressive garnets. It has been known since the 1860's and was commercially mined starting in 1907 until the 1930's by an all woman corporation, a first. Today this continues to be an accessible locality that has been set aside for children to collect. However as no power tools are permitted the production is not like it was many years ago and specimens of this quality are almost never seen.

SOLD Epidote and Quartz - Classic USA
stock #SOLD 10.1-336
Green Monster Mountain, Prince of Wales Island, Prince of Wales Island
Alaska, United States
4.4 x 3.8 x 3.5 CM (miniature)
price: $0
Spring 2020

Epidote from the famed Green Monster Mountainon Prince of Wales Island is a classic and desirable in any collection. The best Epidote are sharp, lustrous and dark oily green often with contrasting Quartz. This miniature has that classic look and displays very well. There is damage to note on several Quartz crystals some of which shows rehealing. This keeps the price far lower than usually seen of Epidote of this quality. The main free standing Epidote are in fine condition and are the focal point of the piece. The bright luster on this small piece is especially eyecatching. Vintage about 1960, a very good value.

Epidote -Classic US locality
stock #10.1-480
Green Monster Mountain, Prince of Wales Island, Prince of Wales Island
Alaska, United States
5 x 2.5 x 1.6 CM (miniature)
price: $280

A single, deep green crystal of Epidote from Prince of Wales Island. The termination shows the multiple steps that are typical of some from the Green Monster Mountain deposit. The crystal is crudely terminated on the base as well, not many doubly terminated prisms are seen. This piece was obtained by the previous owner from Shortmanns Minerals shop in Easthampton, Massachusetts. They worked closely with Ed Over and Arthur Montgomery selling many of their finds, and they were active on Green Monster. Sadly there is no documentation this is one of their pieces but it is a very nice example from this legendary locality.

Epidote on Quartz
stock #17.1-405
Green Monster Mountain, Prince of Wales Island, Prince of Wales Island
Alaska, United States
4.6 x 2.6 x 1.7 CM (miniature)
price: $190
Spring 2019

A choice tabular habit Epidote from the legendary finds at Green Monster Mountain in Alaska, USA. The Epidote is a complete textbook form crystal and quite lustrous. Deep green to brownish yellow hues nicely contrast with the clear colorless Quartz so the specimen stands out well. A fine specimen from the short list of great classic US locales.

Epidote and Quartz - ex Ed Over
stock #15.1-737
Green Monster Mountain, Prince of Wales Island, Prince of Wales Island
Alaska, United States
7.3 x 5.9 x 4.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $550
Winter 2016-17

A fine classic Epidote from Green Monster that was collected by Ed Over, formerly in the Warren Johansson collection. From the legendary find by Over more than 70 years ago, this has fine doubly terminated Epidote crystals over 4 CM in size. Nicely sprinkled with Quartz crystals some of which have green Epidote inclusions. In excellent condition, a very choice specimen that is more impressive in person.

HOLD Epidote and Quartz
stock #HOLD 10.1-336
Green Monster Mountain, Prince of Wales Island, Prince of Wales Island
Alaska, United States
4.2 x 3.5 CM (miniature)
price: $185

A small but very pretty Alaskan Epidote. The largest crystal is 3.2 CM long, glassy bright and decorated with quartz crystals. There is contacting on the perimeter and rear of the specimen but the main crystals are sharp and undamaged. A nice, affordable example of an American classic.are
