Fluorite - modified gem clear cubes
stock #21.1-169
Xiayang, Yongchun County, Quanzhou Prefecture
Fujian Province, China
5.1 x 4.3 x 3.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $1050
Early summer 2021

From a recent (2021) find at Xiayang, a cluster of vivid purple-blue cubes on matrix. These cubes all have the beveled edge modifications that are perfect and sharp, a textbook example. Even more clear and lustrous in person. This sits on its own at several good display angles, the first photo is what some would call the back because there is less Fluorite present though I like the contrast. No matter the angle of display the prominent crystals are fully perfect as seen though some outer crystals do have some edge roughness or contacts. All in all the condition is fine. This does show some of the color change effect from incandescent to daylight or LED lighting. This is a special feature of some Fujian Fluorites and some have called it a "tanzanite effect". The shift from purple to blue is clear, though I must say not quite as vivid as on some other pieces. An excellent example of the find and just a nice Fluorite from anyplace.

Spessartine on Smoky Quartz
stock #20.1-204
Tongbei, Yunxiao County, Zhangzhou Prefecture
Fujian Province, China
7.7 x 3.4 x 3.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $490
Early summer 2021

Bright orange-red Spessartines on all sides of a single Quartz crystal. A modern classic from Tongbei (China); when first found these were huge mineral news, unlike anything else known before. For a few years ago these were fairly common in the mineral market but as the zone became exhausted there are almost none found now. The prices have also been increasing. This specimen has larger than typical Garnets with the crystals reaching to 7 mm. Excellent condition and esthetics, the color and luster are a bit brighter in person.

Quartz on Quartz replacing Calcite
stock #17.1-123
Langyang Mine
Fujian Province, China
9.6 x 7.2 x 5.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $360
new year 2021

A very attractive, bright sparkling Quartz specimen with an unusual form that looks like snowy mountain peaks. The core of this is a cluster of scalenohedral Calcites some partly replaced by Quartz and then overgrown by a new generation of clear slender Quartz needles much like cactus spines. The core Calcite is fluorescent (red and orange) and it shines through the exterior Quartz. The specimen overall is in fine, undamaged condition only broken on the underside where this was removed. This is from a small find about 5 years ago I have not seen anything quite like this since.

Spessartine on Quartz
stock #20.1-175
Tongbei, Yunxiao County, Zhangzhou Prefecture
Fujian Province, China
6.6 x 2.3 x 2 CM (cabinet)
price: $330
Spring 2020

Jewel-like Spessartine Garnets sprinkled on a single Quartz crystal. From the famed Tongbei locality, the Garnets are up to 5 mm and most are bright red, transparent and perfect. The Quartz is a light smokey color with transparent areas. The locality has not been productive for the past few years. These are now considered to be modern classics and the find was unique since this type of Spessartine/ Quartz is not known from any other locality. Very good value.

Spessartine with minor Hyalite Opal
stock #15.1-472
Tongbei, Yunxiao County, Zhangzhou Prefecture
Fujian Province, China
6 x 5 x 2.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $290

Bright lustrous Garnet crystals fully cover the front of this matrix plate. From an older find at Tongbei, there is some minor Hyalite opal as well, but mostly this is a Spessartine that has dozens of sharp, perfect crystals. No damage seen at 10 x magnification, the color is a dark red that is best seen with strong lighting. These represent a great value for the price as this locality had produced so many fine pieces when it was operating.

stock #17.1-188
Samning prefecture
Fujian Province, China
6.5 x 2.9 x 2.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $750

From the impressive finds of 2016 this is an nice example of this purple to blue color change Fluorite. The crystals are gem clear (this has been referred to as "Tanzanite Fluorite" due to the deep color) and most show slight wispy zoning or phantoms. The specimen is contacted on the backside and some crystals have a few rough spots so it is not right for a perfectionist but it still displays very well and is much more affordable as a result. The matrix is a duze of small Quartz crystals and the Fluorites are nicely perched on the matrix stalk. The color shift is seen under different light sources, ranging from a grape purple to indigo blue.

Fluorite -color change
stock #17.1-193A
Xiayang, Yongchun County, Quanzhou Prefecture
Fujian Province, China
6.3 x 3.1 x 2.2 (cabinet)
price: $480
Late Summer 2018

From this great new find, this is a superb small cabinet specimen of sharp, undamaged and very colorful Fluorite. The color shift on these Fluorites is striking, it goes from a royal blue to a deep purple depending on the light source. The crystals are wonderful modified cubes, transparent and have a fine contrast to the matrix. We examined hundreds of pieces from this find and selected just a few, there were many damaged pieces and this level of perfection was not common. The discovery of these in Fujian province was an exciting new find last year and has now already dried up.

stock #17.1-202
Xiayang, Yongchun County, Quanzhou Prefecture
Fujian Province, China
3 x 2.8 x 1.7 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $550
Spring update

A superb toenail sized Fluorite is very fine condition with amazing color. New find that has been making big news, very few of these are damage free or have such well defined faces all around. These have been called by some "Tanzanite" Fluorite due to the similar color and dramatic color change to deep purple under incandescent light. An outstanding small specimen with lots of display impact, choice and with color unlike any other Fluorite known worldwide!
