Diopside - doubly terminated gem crystal
stock #21.1-163
Merelani Hills, Lelatama Mountains, Simanjiro District
Manyara Region, Tanzania
3.2 x 1.7 x .9 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $680

A perfect, complete doubly terminated green Diopside that is fully transparent gem. Of the dozens of these Diopside seen on Mindat none are doubly terminated, this is a very rare example. Some complex geometric internal structures are seen with a close exam as are a few internal Graphite crystals. No damage, and very glassy luster. From Merelani, famed for Tanzanite crystals, these gem Diopsides are much less common on the market, and doubly terminated crystals are very rare in any quality.

Chrome Tremolite - gem crystal
stock #21.1-181
Merelani Hills, Lelatama Mountains, Simanjiro District
Manyara Region, Tanzania
5.7 x 1.5 x .6 CM (cabinet)
price: $790
Late Summer 2021

A large, choice and gemmy Chrome Diopside crystal. This comes from the best locality for this uncommon variety of Tremolite, the Merelani Hills famed for its Tanzanite. Very little has been available for the past few years and usually much smaller. This is a very large crystal for the specie, the color is slightly zoned from a bright apple green at the base to a more yellow-green below the termination. The termination is somewhat crude but complete with several separate points and some dark inclusions. The crystal is well-striated giving a silky look to the sides of the prism. This is fully transparent so it does not need any backlight to show off the color.

Prehnite - crystallized ball/rosette cluster
stock #19.1-650
Merelani Hills, Lelatama Mountains, Simanjiro District
Manyara Region, Tanzania
6.7 x 5.6 x 5.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $380
new year 2021

A large, complete Prehnite ball that is well-crystallized on all sides. The radiating crystals are quite lustrous, mostly a dark blue- green and with a few scattered clear Calcites adding extra contrast. The largest individual Prehnites are almost 2 CM, though most are about 1 CM. The condition is exceptional, undamaged and the overall esthetics are impressive from many angles. This piece is from the major find in 2018 and well above average for quality.

Tanzanite (Gem Blue Zoisite)
stock #19.1-849
Merelani Hills, Lelatama Mountains, Simanjiro District
Manyara Region, Tanzania
1.8 x .9 x .7 CM (thumbnail)
price: $330
new year 2021

A brilliant blue thumbnail gem crystal of Tanzanite. In excellent condition with glassy luster and fine transparency, this is an affordable specimen of this often very expensive mineral. Good Tanzanite like this has a striking color shift across the "C" axis when rotated it shows a purple color shift. Some color zoning is seen in the crystal but it is overall a choice royal blue. 5.17 Carats

Zoisite var. Tanzanite - gem crystal
stock #19.1-852
Merelani Hills, Lelatama Mountains, Simanjiro District
Manyara Region, Tanzania
2.6 x 1.1 x .9 CM (thumbnail)
price: $1300
new year 2021

Fine thumbnail Tanzanite with the very best intense blue color. Excellent transparency best appreciated in person, this is an excellent grade and and in super condition. We selected this from a large parcel of the 2019 gem production looking for crystals that would be a shame to cut. This one is 25.6 Carats. This crystal has one clean contact on an edge and is broken only on the base where it was attached, the termination and faces are perfect. What may look like bruising in some photos is only internal reflections seen inside the glassy faces. Some nice thumbnail crystals can be found by hunting in a large mineral show but very few ever have this color saturation and quality.

Prehnite
stock #19.1-652
Merelani Hills, Lelatama Mountains, Simanjiro District
Manyara Region, Tanzania
5.9 x 3.7 x 3.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $300

"Cockcomb" habit spray of well defined Prehnite crystals from the recent finds at Merlani. The individual crystals are flattish blade type with distinct individual terminations, up to 2.6 CM tall. The Prehnite is all translucent, has a bright luster and a pleasing green to yellow hue. The white clusters are Calcite (fluorescent) with a few Pyrite cubes scattered about . These Tanzanian Prehnites are a very good value and can have outstanding form. This is a choice example.

Prehnite- gemmy large crystals
stock #19.1-651
Merelani Hills, Lelatama Mountains, Simanjiro District
Manyara Region, Tanzania
5.8 x 4.6 3.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $520
Spring 2020

A large rosette of sharp Prehnite crystals that are translucent to transparent, lustrous and colorful. Green exterior with a more yellow core area, a fine example from the amazing finds at Merelani, Tanzania. This area is incredibly rich mineral wise, it is best known of course as the source of Tanzanite but also incredible fine Diopside and these unusual but beautiful Prehnites. Most of the Merelani Prehnites have considerable damage or bruising, this piece is a more choice example, far better than average, with esthetic and distinct crystals. In excellent condition except at the bottom where this was attached.

Tanzanite (blue Zoisite) gem crystal
stock #19.1-869
Merelani, Umba Valley, Lelatama Mountains, Arusha Region
Manyara Region, Tanzania
3 x 1.1 x .6 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $750

An especially vibrant, sharp and clean gem crystal in impeccable condition. The intense blue hue on this is far better than the average and the crystal shows well the famed color shift to a strong royal purple as it is rotated. As the gem values for good Tanzanite is so high the cost of a good specimen with top color can be prohibitive. This is an exception, a small miniature with big visual impact for well under 4 figures. Many Tanzanites have been heat treated to enhance color, it is almost impossible to tell. This one has a hint of red color when viewed down the C axis from the termination. That is said to be a good indication that the color is fully natural.
