A bright, striking Dioptase with sizable, perfect emerald green crystals on a etched matrix. From Altyn-Tyube, this is of exceptional quality for that location, and in fact is a choice specimen from anyplace else too. Sharp perfect crystals to 1.3 CM long are clustered in a sizable mass, a few micro tufts of Malachite are also note. Most Altyn-Tyube pieces have much less visual impact.
Elbaite on Lepidolite
Santa Rosa Mine, Itambacuri, Doce Valley
3.8 x 2.4 x 2 CM (miniature)
A colorful jumble of green Elbaite crystals offset by bits of purple Lepidolite. Very nice luster, moderate damage as seen on some crystals keeps this a very affordable specimen.
A nice epitaxial combo specimen from the Deccan Plateau with odd but attractive esthetics. A main Calcite crystal has small spheres of Fluorite some coated by Calcite that are growing only on the crystal edges but not on any faces. Larger spheres of Fluorite and Quartz forms the matrix. In fine condition.
An odd but very attractive, zoned Tourmaline crystal that is clearly bent. Doubly terminated and with three color zones this in fine condition. A cluster of Cleavelandite blades is the only matrix. One termination is an uncommon slanted habit. This is an early Pakistan specimen from some of the earliest finds (1970s) that looks a bit like later Stak Nala material, but is from Gilgit area. A good value for a rare habit and nice esthetics.
A rich red Ruby crystal that is transparent, has a slight color zoning and more purple core. This stands nicely from the encasing Calcite matrix. A second corundum crystal on the backside is broken and more blue, it is not seen from the display side. There is one clean repair that is not seen without help of 20X magnification, otherwise the Ruby is perfect and complete. The crystal is partially enclosed on the Calcite with 1.9 CM exposed and seems to be about 2.8 CM overall. Very fine form and color, Mogok Ruby has been regarded as the best in the world for centuries, yet few good specimens are seen. Mined in 2016, it is now illegal to export uncut gems from Mynamar.
An excellent 3.2 CM gem crystal of Diopside is well-positioned on a Tremolite matrix. A classic US specimen From the very old locale of Dekalb, New York, this is an early specimen of a type that has not been found for many years. Sharp form, good luster, transparent-gem with fine color and in great condition. Rarely seen on the market and never available in this quality. An excellent value.
Intense salmon-orange color Serandite crystals are nicely perched on a contrasting white matrix. From pre 1980 finds at Mt. St Hilare, later specimens were not so bright. The Serandite at the "top" of the piece is doubly terminated, has a few contacts and great luster. Other crystals on the piece are a little cruder and more encased in the matrix, but are sizable. The world's best specimens all came from this quarry and now that it is closed there will be no more. A classic mix of Alkali minerals on this specimen that are actually attractive. Ex S Alverson collection.
An exceptional specimen the most perfect, colorful and gemmy Calcite I have seen from the closed Rucks Pit fossil clam locality. From early finds at this now classic location, an ex Arkenstone specimen, the luster and transparency are hard to capture in a photo. A small amount of the original clam shell fossil forms the base of this piece, the crystals had grown inside the clam but are now exposed. Unlike most of the thousands of specimens from here this is in the top .001 percent!
