Sharp crystals of Smithsonite cover a matrix of Cerussite with some twinned crystals showing. The Smithsonites are all perfect and undamaged. A nice association the milky-white Smithsonite crystals have nice contrast to the grey Cerussite.
Yellow-hued crystals of transparent Smithsonite up to 2.5 cm long are sticking out in all directions on this complex yet esthetic piece. In outstanding condition overall, there is one crystal with a broken termination that will be hidden on most logical display angles. All of the other crystals are quite perfect. Without analysis I am not sure if this should be called Cadmian Smithsonite as many yellow examples are labelled. Choice and attractive.
A super and unusual thumbnail gem crystal with a clear red Rubellite exterior that lets the green-blue inner core be seen like a racing stripe. Choice and better in person, there is a tiny bit of adhering matrix and one small clean contact with no damage. This crystal is also dichroic with a good color shift seen when rotated in front of a light source like a computer screen. Small but with a good display impact far larger than the size!
Kermesite with Calcite
Caiwa Mine, Danfeng Co. Shangluo Prefecture
6.5 x 5.5 x 3.1 CM (cabinet)
A very nice display specimen of Kermesite crystals on matrix from the one time find that produced the best ever. Typical crude terminations on sharp crystals to nearly 3CM tall standing up from the matrix. In person the red glints of the Kermesite is very evident. Micro-crystals of an unknown mineral that seems to be Valentinite are a bonus. Delicate and fine, these are now very hard to find and expensive when available. A fine value ex Shields Flynn collection obtained from Bert Ottens.
From the now famed La Marina Mine this is a more rare habit of elongated prism Apatite. Sharp, choice, and with great color, this deposit more typically had flattened equant or stretched tabular forms. From the recent find this is the best example of the form we have seen.
Elbaite - gem grade crystal
Resplendor Mine - Doce Valley
4.9 x .8 x .4 CM (miniature)
Sharp, pure gem clear grade with fine green to blue green color. The photos have a very slight backlighting, with a stronger backlight this crystal glows intensely and shows some blue zones as well. In fine condition as seen with top notch glass-like luster internally flawless and super clear. Older material from the famed Resplendor Mine, there has not been any like this available for some time.
A fine, perfect complete floater Heliodore gem crystal with no damage at all. Fine clarity and color with the elegant etching found only from the Valodarsk Pegmatite. Just under 7 grams and 100 percent facet grade. These have gotten to be very expensive on the market and much less available in affordable smaller specimens.
Smithsonite on Galena
4 x 3.3 x 2.9 CM (miniature)
Outstanding esthetics, in fine condition a very choice Tsumeb piece. The matrix is the classic type of Tsumeb Galena with small areas of Cerussite best seen with magnification. The Smithsonites contrast nicely with the matrix. Colorless to very pale pink hues on crystals reaching 1.7 cm with fine transparency as well. Displays with great impact despite the small size!
