price: $1350

A killer miniature of absolutely transparent bright gem Grossular from the Jeffrey mine. When the mine was running, there were many different habits, colors and associations of Garnet found, usually in small zones that were never repeated. Over the years many habits have become especially desirable to collectors and this habit is one of them. This has rich red-orange color with good crystal separation, brilliant luster and impeccable transparency. Overall the arrangement of the Grossular is esthetic and the whole displays well from all sides. No damage, an esthetic example for the specie from the worlds greatest Grossular locale.
Quartz v. Amethyst -

8 x 6.8 x 4.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $1500
Pre Holiday 2017
An incredibly formed Quartz- a "mushroom cap" style Amethyst on a contrasting matrix (this is not a scepter but more like an umbrella). In outstanding condition with great form and color, this is a very rare habit, I have only seen one other specimen. The Karur diggings have occasionally produced some exotic Quartz and this is a great example of "exotic". Below the fringe line of the cap a few tiny single crystals some sceptered protrude like little fingers. Complex parallel and stacked crystals in radial form join at the peak of the cap in a crude termination of sorts. Even the matrix is unusual, a mix of small crystals of Calcite, Quartz, Albite, Clinoclore etc that is much like some Alpine matrixes. A very special addition for any fine Quartz suite.

6.7 x 5 x 3.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $220
Pre Holiday 2017
An esthetic, old Garnet specimen with crystals to 2.8 CM in impeccable condition. What sets this piece apart is the rich red color and translucency, which is far better than most. Well presented and exposed in a nice composition. As is often the case with these Austrian classics, there has been a thin layer of clear shellac or varnish applied which stabilized the often crumbly Schist matrix and adds a little luster to the garnets. This is now seen as an undesirable tactic but in the 19th century it was common. This can be removed with Acetone if desired but it is historicaly accurate to keep it as well.

Brilliant wetlook luster and intense color with the melted style crystals make this an impressive piece. There was one significant pocket found decades ago that yielded this unusual habit and brilliant shine. Most of the display face is the rare deep orange red color but there is also bright yellow and green on the display face. The hexagons are distinct yet look to be coated with a melted surface of micro crystals. Striking.

An old (1960s vintage) and unusual Rhodochrosite from Santa Eulalia. The Rhodos are bright pink and very gemmy rhombs in small clusters and rosettes. A few white Calcites in rice grain form are sprinkled in and the whole rests on a contrasting greenish matrix that is a cast after what probably were earlier Calcite crystals. In fine condition.
