Plumbogummite replacing Pyromorphite
stock #19.1-336
Daoping Mine, Gongcheng County, Guilin Prefecture
Guangxi Province, China
7.5 x 5.1 x 2.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $950

An elegant specimen with flowerlike crystal sprays on a powder blue matrix. The crystals are in several stages of pseudomorphing from Pyromorphite to Plumbogummite. These are in excellent condition, complete and undamaged which is very rare in these specimens. Many of the free standing crystals are light blue on one side and yellow-green on the opposite side. These amazing Plumbogumites from China were big mineral news when these were first found, they have been recognized as the worlds best.

Plumbogummite and Mimetite, Pyromorphite
stock #AX-14B-130
Dry Gill Mine, Caldbeck Fells
Cumberland, Cumbria, England
4.4 x 2.2 x 2.2 CM (miniature)
price: $400

A very old or "vintage" specimen, previous label notes it to have been collected 1830-40 era. The labels call the associated crystals Mimetite although it looks to me like the larger greener ones are Pyromorphite with some yellow Mimetites as a second generation. This specimen is pictured on Mindat and it is labeled Pyromorphite there. Ex Ben Shumer collection, this is a small but pretty and colorful miniature. Under good magnification it is quite incredible, delicate and the blue Plumbo balls sparkle. Quite three dimensional, a nice classic specimen from this famed locale. Before the great Chinese Plumbogummites were found recently. English pieces (from Roughton Gill and Dry Gill) were the worlds best, prized in top collections all over the world. Despite the beauty of new Chinese pieces these old English specimens are still very special and quite different too. This mine was last worked in 1869, and was one of the worlds most important mineral localities.

Plumbogummite - dark blue replacing Pyromorphite
stock #18.1-174
Daoping Mine, Gongcheng County, Guilin Prefecture
Guangxi Province, China
5 x 4.5 x 3.3 CM (miniature)
price: $150
Spring update

The rare deep indigo blue Plumbogummite from the earliest finds at Daoping that is very different from the later powder-blue replacement crystals. This botryoidal mass covers a bright yellow to greenish zone of unaltered Pyromorphite. Sawn on the base and with some bruises mostly at the outer edges, so this is not for a perfectionist but is still choice and very attractive for one of these. For centuries the worlds best Plumbogummites were the British specimens that were priceless treasures in top collections. This Chinese specimen even though modest is richer and esthetically superior to most of those. Collected before 2004 from a zone that was mined away soon after.

stock #16.1-280
Daoping Mine, Gongcheng County, Guilin Prefecture
Guangxi Province, China
4.1 x 3.7 x 2.3 CM (miniature)
price: $420
Winter 2016-17

The Daoping area finds of Plumbogummite have been extraordinary, by far the best quality ever seen. This specimen is an esthetic treelike cluster of former Pyros which are sizable and well-formed. The replacement with a powder blue to yellow-green Plumbogummite seems to be complete. In excellent condition, a choice piece of a modern classic find.

Plumbogummite with Pyromorphite

Daoping Mine, Gongcheng County, Guilin Prefecture
Guangxi Province, China
5.5 x 3.4 x 3.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $475
pre Tucson 2015 update

China recently produced a spectacular find of Plumbogummite that is by far the most attractive of this usually drab mineral. The best pieces are a replacement of Pyromorphite crystals with a blue green hue. This piece is a delicate jackstraw collection of slender crystals forming a nest. This is almost pure Plumbogummite with a little Cerussite but on some broken crystals that show unaltered Pyromorphite cores. Very fine form for this rare mineral and quite esthetic.
