Molybdenite - rosette habit, unusual locale
stock #20.1-081
Tanyang-gun,
Chungcheongbukdo, South Korea
3.2 x 2.1 x 1.1 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $260
Early summer 2021

A lovely old thumbnail sized Molybdenite with nice form and luster. From the Pat Barker collection, Pat lived for several years in Korea decades ago and was active in field collecting at that time. The Tanyang Mine is listed in Mindat but Molybenite is not noted from this locale. We feel comfortable with this locality attribution as Pat was a detailed and careful collector and was diligent in documentation. In very good condition.

Scheelite -Classic Korean
stock #17.1-623
Tae wha Mine, Neungam-ri, Angseong-myeon, Chungju
Chungcheongbukdo, South Korea
4.2 x 2.6 x 3 CM (thumbnail)
price: $360
Spring 2019

A well formed cluster of elongated Octahedral Scheelites in a stack having selected coatings on some faces. The color seems nearly black but under strong light is seen to a dense dark purple and somewhat translucent. Some minor bruising can be found with magnification exam but it is not seen easily found by naked eye, this is in far better shape than most, some base and back contacts are also noted that are not damage at all. Displays very well from several angles.

Scheelite on Quartz
stock #12.1-278
Tong Wha Mine, Neungam-ri, Angseong-myeon, Chunglu
Chungcheongbukdo, South Korea
5 x 2.7 x 2.3 CM (miniature)
price: $280

A well presented, sharp, shiny Scheelite is perfectly perched on the side of a quartz crystal. Good Korean Scheelites were never very common 30 years ago and now are seen when older collections are dispursed. The Scheelite (1.7 CM) is translucent and has a few areas of selected etching. Overall in good shape, one tiny area of chipping can be found with magnification. A nice, esthetic and affordable old Korean piece.
