Grossular on Diopside - USA classic
stock #20.1-292
VAG Mine, Lowell & Eden
Vermont, United States
3 x 2 x .9 CM (thumbnail)
price: $390

An American classic. The most desirable of the famed "Eden Mills" garnets are the gemmy red-orange crystals on contrasting green Diopside crystals. This legendary quarry has been closed for decades, this style of Grossular is unique to the lower reaches of the site, it is quite different from anyplace else on earth. This is an especially cute thumbnail the small Garnet is an inter-grown trio of crystals that contrasts well with the matrix. In fine condition damage-wise by naked eye but with good magnification a chip is seen. Not for perfectionists but that keeps the cost well below normal market for a specimen of this sort.

Grossular - gemmy crystals
stock #18.1-763
Jeffrey Mine, Asbestos (now Val-des-Sources, Estrie,
Quebec, Canada
3.1 x 2.1 1.3 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $280
Spring 2020

A cluster or stack of very lustrous Garnets with the classic color and form that made the Jeffrey Mine world famous. This is the flattened type of cluster with no matrix, it is entirely contacted on the back as was the case with this style, fully translucent and mostly transparent. This type of specimen was sometimes used as a sort of natural jewelry, mounted or wire wrapped as is or with the back ground flat. A very good value these Garnets show characteristic striations and growth hillocks. A fine modern classic from a source that will never again produce anything.

Grossular (Andradite) on Blue Calcite
stock #16.1-1278
Dognaczka, Banat Mountains
Caras Severin Co., Romania
8.3 x 6.2 x 3.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $250

Classic locality specimen with well formed Garnets up to 1.9 CM across. These brown crystals contrast well with a blue Calcite and Feldspar matrix. This locality has produced both Adradite and Grossular in the skarn and this was previously identified as Grossular but it likely is zoned and has at least some Andradite. The main crystals are complete and in undamaged condition. There are some smaller and one has damage though it is not distracting. The matrix on this is especially nice and the isolation of the crystals is far better than any other I have seen .

Grossular - Raspberry garnet
stock #AX-19-232
Sierra de la Cruz, Municipio de Sierra Mojada
Coahuila, Mexico
4.8 x 4 x 3.1 (miniature)
price: $160

Large red-purple "Raspberry" Garnets on contrasting matrix from Coahuilla. The crystals reach 1.4 CM and some are intergrown. Aside from some contacts the crystals are unusually complete and well exposed on the matrix. This locale was still active and producing until about 4 years ago. This style of Garnet is unique to this zone which over the years produced many fine specimens. A good, affordable specimen.

Grossular and Diopside
stock #AX-24-481
Jeffrey Mine, Asbestos (now Val-des-Sources, Estrie,
Quebec, Canada
3.4 x 2.3 x 2.8 CM (miniature)
price: $360

An attractive, complex specimen of lustrous cinnamon colored Grossular on prismatic Diopside crystals. A classic combination from the famed Jeffrey Mine. The Garnets are well formed and damage free, the Diopsides are well terminated with flat tops and also undamaged but are contacted on the outer edges. A choice miniature that has a fine color contrast. Better in person.

Grossular
stock #AX-24-261
Jeffrey Mine, Asbestos (now Val-des-Sources, Estrie,
Quebec, Canada
2.4 x 2 x 1.5 CM (thumbnail)
price: $360

A killer thumbnail of gem clear sharp Garnets that are well isolated and super lustrous. The crystals are unusually smooth without most of the usual striations so the faces are like windows looking into the crystals. In excellent condition, micro contacts can be found with 20X magnification but overall a perfect piece. A modern classic, this quality is far, far beyond the average yet still very affordable.

Grossular - gemmy
stock #18.AX-270
Jeffrey Mine, Asbestos (now Val-des-Sources, Estrie,
Quebec, Canada
3.4 x 2.4 x 1.1 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $380

A super attractive Grossular from the great Jeffrey Mine. The matrix is all Garnet, a thin plate of transparent pale Grossular with a cluster of larger deep orange crystals that are very distinct and have fine luster. The main Grossular is 1.5 CM across and all gem. In fine condition this has a nice contrast and gives a good isolation to the main crystals.

Grossular -c lassic locale
stock #14.1-215
Asbest, Sverdlovskaya Oblast
Urals Region, Russia
6 x 5.7 x 3.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $220
Late Summer 2018

A rich mass of Grossular Garnets on a Rodingite matrix from the famed Asbest deposit in the Urals. Some of the Grossular are gemmy and have good color as well. These are always being compared with the better known deposits in the town of Asbestos in Canada, and there are many similarities between the two. Perhaps the most striking difference is that there are very few fine Grossular from Asbest in collections, there are quite rare on the market and usually very small. This is super specimen for the locale. in great condition very lustrous and more impressive in person.
