A complete crystal with textbook perfect form and doubly terminated as well. From the classic locality at the long closed Francon Quarry. In perfect condition with sharp lustrous striations on the faces. Well above average in esthetics, this rare mineral that has only been found in a few locations worldwide, but only this find produced good displayable crystals. A very distinctive habit and a modern classic.

8 x 5.8 x 4.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $8500
Fall 2015

A killer, world-class and huge Weloganite, one of the largest crystals found, with exceptional display esthetics. The crystal is 4.8 CM tall. For what it is worth, this is the best cabinet matrix specimen that I have ever seen, and I prefer it to the well-known published single crystals. In very good condition, the matrix is sawn on the back and base, not seen on display side. Tiny doubly terminated Quartz and what seems to be Sphalerite micros with some bright golden Marcasite are noted in the vug where this grew. A few small Quartz also are on the right side of the crystal just below the termination and add a little extra sparkle. Fine creamy yellow color and good luster give the Weloganite contrast from the matrix. It is very rare that we offer specimens of such stature on our website, we usually sell this quality at major shows or in private sales. This is an experiment to explore the possibility of presenting more top quality or rare specimens in this way.

Weloganite with Dresserite, Dawsonite

pre Tucson 2015 update

A sizable cavity filled with sharp Weloganite crystals up to 2.2 CM long. There are numerous tiny crystals of the classic related species (and probably some Strontianites too. The Francon Quarry is now gone, its Weloganites were by far the best ever found worldwide. The biggest of these are undamaged with the elegant complex hourglass habit well presented. There are some "natural" broken crystals in the pocket that show signs of partial rehealing. A good, affordable specimen with some well formed, rare crystals.
