Beryl var. Emerald on Quartz
stock #18.1-053
Mina El Toro, Chivor Municipio de Chivor
Boyaca, Colombia
5.4 X 4.3 x 3.5 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $1200
Worldwide mix summer

Large translucent Emerald crystals protruding from a vuggy Quartz matrix. From a little known mine (Mina El Toro) that is in the Chivor district of Colombia, this is an attractive specimen with rich color. The main crystal is 4.3 CM long and the termination is quite choice. Quartz is a rare matrix for Colombian Emeralds since most are found in Calcite veins. On close inspection the Quartz shows several crystal faces that are distorted and bent, a very odd matrix. Displays well obviously not top facet grade but not priced at 20,000 per carat either. The form and color make this a very attractive specimen that is a fine addition to any suite of Beryls, Colombian minerals or just a collection of nice esthetic pieces.

Emerald with Quartz crystals
stock #18.1-205
Mina Amarillial, Cosquez, Municipio de Muzo
Boyaca, Colombia
4.2 x 2.2 x 1.9 CM (miniature)
price: $480
Spring update

Light to mint green Beryl (Emerald) crystals make up most of this specimen with only a thin shard of matrix showing on one edge. Crystallized Beryla are on all sides, almost a floater. The Quartz prisms are sharp and clear contrasting with the Beryl. Crystallized quartz is rare in Colombian Emerald specimens, much more typical is Calcite or Dolomite. This is from a little known spot in the famed Boyaca region. In Colombia only 2 or 3 mines have ever produced Quartz crystals intergrown with Emerald. There are some chipped or contacted crystals but also many perfect, sharp Hexagons with good transparency and luster.

Beryl var. Emerald wih Quartz
stock #18.1-056
Mina Amarillial, Cosquez, Municipio de Muzo
Boyaca, Colombia
5.4 x 4.8 x 2.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $850
Spring update

A two-sided specimen holding dozens of light to mid green Emerald crystals that are intermixed with Quartz crystals. Very unusual for a Colombian Emerald specimen, the usual association in Calcite. Prior to our finding this material the only Quartz matrix I have seen or know of for Emeralds is at Penas Blancas and it is very rare there. This little known cut near Coscuez has now produced a few of this rae combo. A choice and rare piece with many small, very clear Emeralds covering both sides of the matrix. With magnification the quality really stands out.

Apatite-(CaF) prismatic habit elongated hexagon
stock #16.1-655
La Marina Mine, Pauna
Boyaca, Colombia
2.2 x 1 x 1 CM (thumbnail)
price: $380
Winter 2016-17

From the now famed La Marina Mine this is a more rare habit of elongated prism Apatite. Sharp, choice, and with great color, this deposit more typically had flattened equant or stretched tabular forms. From the recent find this is the best example of the form we have seen.

Fluorapatite - stacked crystal chain
stock #16.1-158
La Marina Mine, Pauna
Boyaca, Colombia
2.1 x .8 x .6 CM (thumbnail)
price: $400
Winter 2016-17

A fine, sharp pink Apatite from the well-known finds at the La Marina Emerald Mine. Delicate transparent to translucent crystals with bright glass-like luster are in a faden-like stack. Small but very pretty and in fine condition.

Parisite on Calcite
stock #16.1-156
Muzo Mining District
Boyaca, Colombia
4.5 x 4.2 x 2.8 CM (miniature)
price: $800
Winter 2016-17

An impressive specimen of this rare but usually drab mineral. Super esthetic Parisite crystals in excellent condition are scattered on a druzy matrix. The deep color and waxy luster of these crystals are quite distinctive. Very choice

Fluorapatite (pink) with Albite
stock #15.1-586
La Marina Mine, Pauna
Boyaca, Colombia
1.8 x 1.4 x 1 CM (thumbnail)
price: $290
Fall 2015

The Colombian pink Apatites from La Marina are very desirable but very hard to get in any quality. There have been no new finds for the past few years, and the La Marina Mine is currently idle. This is an older piece from the 2003-4 era, and has good color. Some of the later Apatites were found to fade and became colorless, but this is the older color-stable type. Minor edge wear is noted mostly on the backside, but overall in very good shape for one of these.
