This specie is a fairly uncommon Manganese Carbonate, but it can take many forms and habits. It is best known as good display specimens from the Kalahari Manganese Fields, from most other localities these are quite drab. This deposit has a very different style and esthetic, the better specimens like this are quite attractive and unusual. Fluorite - unusual form, hexagonal spinel twins in stack
stock #18.1-440
Vredes Valley Riemsvasmaak, Orange River
Northern Cape Province, South Africa
10 x 5.7 x 3.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $1600
Fall 22

A remarkable and rare habit of Fluorite, this from the Orange River area of South Africa. The larger Fluorite crystals on this specimen are hexagonal stacks of flat crystals which on close examination are seen to be flattened spinel twins with small square edge windows. A second generation of bright yellow Fluorite is encrusting some edges of the blue to purple large Fluorites. Such unusual forms and habits make Fluorite an incredibly diverse example of the cubic crystal system. These are also prized as exotics by Fluorite collectors. In excellent condition on the front and sides, the back is both contacted and partly cleaved which is not visible from the display side. Especially for those who enjoy strange crystal habits this is a choice and attractive specimen.

Xikuangshan Sb Deposit, Lengshuijiang Co., Loudi Pref.
Hunan Province, China
8.1 x 3.9 x 3 CM (cabinet)
price: $660
Fall 22

A super esthetic specimen from a remarkable find almost 15 years ago at Xikuangshan. This has a delicate transparent Calcite crystal perched on edge that is shot through with metallic Stibnite crystals most of which extend outside of the Calcite. This look great on all sides and the Calcite (3.7 CM across) is well-formed, complete and in fine condition. The black sparkling matrix is a very nice contrast to the metallic Stibnite and the Calcite. This specimen was in the collection of Michel Jouty, and is especially well-composed with a fine architecture.

Karaganda Region, Kazakhstan
5 x 3.2 x 3.2 CM (miniature)

A fine, well-crystalized specimen of this rare Lead Copper Iron Sulfide. The world's best specimens came from this remote Kazakhstan locality in 1998, this is one of those. This is a cluster of striated, metallic to sooty black crystals, on what looks like a matrix that is also Betekhtinite in crystals of a different habit. Very choice for this rare specie that is not often available. A great find for those who love rare sulfides and find black minerals to be especially beautiful!
